To compare Windows/MacOS vs. X11 is comparing an operating system + display server + window manager vs. just the display server. Is it surprising that when one manufacturer controls all three all applications use it more consistently? How will a new display server alone correct this? Do you want some thing to replace X11 + your favorite window manager in a nice bundle? My point? Too much philosophical wanking (replace X11 please, it was created by dorks as an experiment and people have hated it forever) and no practicality of solution.
