I find that when I play games on MAME, I tend not to care, because nothing is at stake. When I pay a quarter in the arcade, I play the game harder, because I have spent actual money for that actual game. It's a subtle psychological effect, but it's true, and not just for me. And anyway, if you're going to have microtransactions, why not actually, ya know, use them? I want to play a single “full game” for $0.25.
