Alright, maybe not when I was three, but I wasn't much older than five when I learned to roll my own pasta from my grandmother's next door neighbor. She did it at her kitchen table and it made it easier for her if I rolled it because I was just the right height relative to the table. It was a hell of a lot more fun than "playing" or being "out in the fresh air" "where kids belong." Thank God my parents didn't make me do sports. I was precocious. I taught myself to read by age three, without going to school or being taught by anyone else. I *hated* listening to the other kids learning to read in grades 1 & 2. In fact, school kind of blew all the way through. Good for these kids if their parents can treat them to something nice like this. I would have loved a class like that when I was a kid. I suspect the stories are more a reflection of the social lives and attitudes of the staff of the New York Times, or maybe of a segment of Manhattanites. There's a lot of New York outside of Manhattan that isn't like Manhattan. And distinguish it from consumption habits or from publicity. How did I miss this? Where are all the pics of your adorable offspring? Where are all the charming stories? Where is your list of ongoing child-focussed consumption? You are a parent!?!?!?!
