So either Peter or I spontaneously generated one out of pretzel crumbs and sock fluff. I have a copy of Rez on the shelf. The things my parents don't really understand include a) save points and b) unskippable cutscenes, and I sure as hell wasn't going to plough through THAT hour again. I'm always vaguely embarrassed playing games in front of my parents. I did however manage to get through to my dad a while ago - RTSs kind of make sense to him. Prevost Thu, 28 Feb 2008 07:22:17 +0000 http://tleaves.com/2008/02/27/short-clips/#comment-4719 I'm still chugging away through Lost Odyssey, but it's kind of... too much J in the JRPG. I mean, I'm in the last unexplored non-plot area before the final plot-area. I'm fighting fights that take a few rounds to finish, but leave most of my characters at 95% or better health and mana because of crazy synergies between items and abilities. Every character in my party gains one level for each random encounter I run into. That's... a bit over the top. I mean, I can see out-leveling stuff, because that's what you do in a JRPG. But getting the game to the point where there's absolutely no challenge at all, and it's still giving you maximum XP all the time seems a bit weird. The save points are pretty godawful in LO, too. Save points are bad, we all know that. Save points where it takes you an *hour* to get from one to the next are another thing entirely. There are only a couple of segments that are that bad, but they're irritating as all hell. I'm looking forward to finishing it in the next day or so (depending on how many more random encounters I run into before getting out of this area), and then moving on to Apollo Justice. Oh, and playing a few rounds of N+ after I'm tired of LO is nice, too. I’m still chugging away through Lost Odyssey, but it’s kind of… too much J in the JRPG. Funeral: the minigame had some camp value to it (and I kept expecting her body, buried as it is among a collection of Mass Relays, to be launched to Citadel Station), but it's just gotten more and more tedious as I've just dealt with more and more of Sakaguchi's distinctive neuroses (behold THE POWER OF MOM) and a plot that veers between the ludicrous and the incomprehensible. The nicest thing I can say about it is that Apollo has made an interesting change of pace from Phoenix.
