On the PC version, I played this game like a pretty standard FPS with absolutely no problems. that being said, I agree with you completely in that the story in this game was *really, really* terrible. I've seen sci-fi channel movies that blow this out of the water, and I have never once seen a sci-fi channel movie I would classify as even mediocre. The "romances" were so stilted and cringe-worthy that I have to conclude that whoever wrote them has never been in any sort of romantic situation, or even talked to a woman at length. I enjoyed playing this game, but I still actually regret buying it, because it means that game designers are going to think that absolute garbage like this is acceptable storytelling. this entire website appears to be post after post whining about how games suck because you suck at them. just because you couldn’t play the game correctly doesn’t mean that no one could. I don't necessarily disagree with any of what you've said here, but perhaps I have more modest expectations of BioWare games. At its root, I thought that Mass Effect had both better dialogue and better puzzles than any of the previous console BioWare titles. Of course, I'm a total whore for David Brin's _Uplift_ universe, so it was a foregone conclusion that I'd like the game. I actually liked Mass Effect. Then it was crushingly obvious how limited the gameplay was going to be. Not just the Planet Houston Ship Channel design, but the claustrophobic zones made it feel less like visiting planets and more like visiting closets. Also, just like Baldur's Gate 2 I sort of shot my wad doing every single side mission at the start enjoying the writing. The later missions just don't live up to that. You know what game Mass Effect should have been? Sundog. That was a great space exploration story game. You know, I had noticed the lack of being able to jump, but I couldn't quite put my finger on why it was a problem. You sum it up perfectly. No jump button…
