BUT, 1) Fallout 3 also had all of the same problems and was not "objectively terrible...in nearly every possible way". 2) You must be crazy, because the tactical combat is so much fun! 45 skeletons to slay before the next plot point? I love it! Give me more! Why all the hate for Dragon’s Age? :)

Bioware makes the problem even worse by tricking the player into thinking they will need to save items for crafting, when in fact, crafting is another waste of time. * minor spoiler warning for Dragon Age * The worst items in the game are the crafting items and the crystals. Since DA is a sandbox game, you can do quests in any order, which means that if you are like me, you did the quest to get the golem as the second-to-last quest in the game. Thus, I carried around about 20 useless crystals for most of the game before I gave up and just sold them all in disgust. * spoiler ending * I liked Dragon Age despite its problems. My advice to anyone wanting to play the game is: ignore all pointless Mercenary/Wizard/Chantry side quests and ignore all crafting items, for crafting leads to madness. There is a lot of nostalgia for every worn out tedious time wasting design disaster in those games, from the awful inventory management to the awful combat. They certainly brought it all back in Dragon Age. It seems to me that most of Dragon Age’s design problems stem from the desire to do service to the fans of the “old school” Baldur’s Gate style slog. The lack of a voice for my character in Dragon Age was a huge distraction. I actually thought I missed a setting in the options for his voice. Great comparison. I've only played DA for about 5 hours, but I wasn't really anxious to get back. Now I'm really not anxious to play it again. Yes!
