the zigbee things are pretty simple really… I’m not much of a hardware guy but soldering a few bits together wasn’t too rough (as a simple comms link between 2 endpoints).

Is the rs-232 at least a normal null-modem serial interface thatsomething like pyserial or minicom can speak to? (is it documented somewhere and ‘standard’ at all?)

You could probably hook up some zigbee radios, pyserial and some minor soldering and get all of the goodness you want in the wireless, controlled from home-computer, automatically snapping picts of the celestial bodies of your dreams.

you should have got a carbon bike Also, you should go the Elqui valley in Chile and go to the Mamalluca observatory. We got to check out Saturn’s rings on their 12″ telescope. You can book tours at the big observatories down there too. Very good pisco from there too.
