Stating the Obvious

by peterb

Those who can, write code.

Those who can't, wank about Open Source Licenses.

Is there some particular wanker you have in mind, or is this just a general comment?

Actually, I _was_ thinking about someone in particular, but I'm never averse into turning just about any discussion into an excuse for insulting Eric Scott Raymond. How about we do that here?

Do we hafta? he does such a good job for us!

Bleah, and I went and even through in a hyperlink to Eric Raymond's instructions on how to be sexy. Curse you and your filters for preventing easy access to Eric Raymond based erotica.

See, in all seriousness, that was _exactly_ one of the things I was thinking about. It's like when a song gets stuck in your head, and you get rid of it by transferring it to someone else!

Ah, yes. Eric S. Raymond, voice of the wanker generation. As someone who writes code for a living and for fun, I'm sick of the notion that ESR speaks for me. He's little more than a demogogue and idol to the drooling hordes of slashkiddies and l33t h4x0r wannabes.

But surely this isn't who you had in mind when you started this thread, or you would have posted a longer rant.

As if to prove your point, this was on NPR last night:

Open Source Beer.
Wankers.
