The explosive THWACK!, like a bullet meeting a teak chopping block, was the best sound in the world. BTW, I too remember Sky Raider. I never would have placed it from your description, but the screen shot is etched in my memory. I also recall some other old games from an amusement park near my childhood home. "Killer Shark," which I never played because it seemed too scary at the time, had a terrible wail that would cut through everyone in the arcade when a shark was shot and in its death throes. "Sea Hunt," a submarine game, had a great piiiiing, too. Ah, the old days...
