If you have a room with a high light level, perhaps windows and whatnot, then you want an LCD. The output of an LCD is much more than a plasma, so it will overpower that external light. If you have a nice dark room then go with the plasma. The plasma tends to give darker dark colors since it isn't backlit like the LCD. We have No windows in our TV room, so our choice is a plasma. One respsonse to commenter #4 Television sales places modify the settings of TVs to make one model look better than others. If they have an excess of one type, they will change the settings so that it will look fantastic. People buy them, then they repeat that with the next top stock item. The best thing you can do in a store when comparing is to set the levels of the TVs to the same settings. There are three settings to focus one... Turn sharpness to 0 (it will usually be 50% or more and just does edge enhancement- - that white edge you see on things). Turn brightness down to around 20% Turn contract to around 20%, but there is some flexibility there The trick is to drop these settings until it resemblles looking out a window, not looking at lightbright screens. I hope this don't bite me in the ass ... uhm.. ‘coming months’ came ‘now’ (while away on business trip) and Sharp turned into: Sony 46″ Bravia W-Series LCD HDTV

From what I was told, they are the only ones who source screens of that quality. Makes ya wonder. I should have made that more clear. I was just listing the various resolutions for the benefit of those who might be confused. I should have made that more clear.

Any cheap, no-name screen produced in China can display 720p, yet tend to have horrible colour tones, black levels and contrast. The BAD way to buy a TV is basing the decision on specs, the good way is to go to a shop and see it for yourself. Or read reviews if you can't see the TV first.
