Tedious, mostly useless, yet I couldn't keep myself from doing grid searches of almost every planet. My Mass Effect complaint was driving over broken ground looking for crashed probes and artifacts. The demo ran on my old laptop but the full version did not. Sad. I bought Puzzle Quest twice and a ds lite based on the strength of the demo. A three-foot tall guy in full-body gimp suit is clearly an excellent reference to the song "Sex Dwarf". I think Mass Effect gets bonus points for being able to dance with the volus club owner. That was when you'd buy a magazine and get a CD featuring roughly 714 demos that were at least an hour long each. Now it's just a hassle to get hold of em, and they tend to be in the region of 30 seconds long, and all the other reasons you mentioned. I remember when demos offered replay value. Severance and the original Hitman spring to mind. I downloaded the most recent Hitman demo for shits and giggles and it was just the crappy tutorial level. Bah. Also, timed demos are and always have been the work of the devil. I used to base pretty much all my game purchases on demos.
