I notice the conspicuous absence of any operating system I run among the ones supported.
Just pretend I could read that page (“big orange splotch” doesn’t say “link” to me).
Hmm… is this basically a tower defense game?
It’s _mostly_ a tower defense game. There’s a 50-level campaign through five progressively more difficult areas, and it’s constantly introducing both new zombie types and new plant types. (The plants are used for defense, offense, and support….they’re your “towers”.) Most levels in the campaign have you picking a selection of ~6 seeds that you can plant to protect your house. Every few levels in the campaign there’ll be some sort of special level — perhaps zombie bowling, or whack-a-zombie, or one that’s dark and you can only see during lightning flashes, etc.
After you beat the campaign you unlock a whole bunch more. There’s a wide variety of mini-games that run the gamut from action to Bejewelled-like puzzle (with zombies attacking your “gems”) to strategy. There are challenging survival levels that are much more difficult than the campaign. There’s a weird little “Zen garden” metagame. And you can also replay the campaign in something akin to a “new game+” mode common in console games, where you keep what you have, face more difficult levels, and also gain access to all new items and seeds.
The whole game is ridiculously addictive, especially since pretty much every level introduces some new element to the mix. The game is only $9.99 on Steam and I’ve gotten more value out of it than many $60 console games.
(p.s. – I don’t work for Popcap, but was a beta tester for the game. I hope I didn’t sound like a shill.)
$9.99 on Steam? Urgh — I read this not 5 minutes after paying the $19.99 price.
Oh well. It is worth it. I am totally addicted after playing the demo…
