I’m not retarded.
Courtesy of the forums at Quarter To Three comes this little gem: IGN declares the Playstation 3 to be the “best new game console” of 2006. Their rationale? The PS3 plays DVDs and you can install Linux on it. And maybe there might be a good game or two sometime next year.
This is almost as retarded: a high def DVD player is a “gaming peripheral”.

I’m completely failing to understand why the gaming console is supposed to be able to play movies. I must be a neanderthal.
Being a mercenary pen for hire, I can’t promise that I will never write for IGN. After all, how will they get better if “better” people don’t write for them? But their year end wrap ups are regularly the most puzzling of all the major sites.
Their rationale? That’s easy: Sony paid them lots of $$$. It really says something that “it plays DVDs and can run Linux” is all they could come up with.
