Call For Writers

On February 2, 2007, in Games, by peterb

I’m preparing to undertake another project.

I’m looking for a number of aspiring writers who are interested in being published in a print magazine. I’m looking for writing about people who play videogames. This doesn’t mean you need to be a gamer yourself; I’m looking to do something a bit more interesting than simple game reviews.

Here are the essentials:

  • You will be paid. The pay will be modest.
  • You will be published in a print magazine, and online
  • You will work with good editors who care about the topic.
  • Writers who deliver quality work and meet the deadlines are likely to be offered more work.

I’m being coy about the exact subject matter in this posting, but if you are interested send mail to tleavesweblog – a t – gmail (dot) com with a brief description of yourself, and we’ll talk more. If you have a writing sample, that would be great, too.

I will be available to write at least one piece about how people who play video games are stupid.

  2. peterb says:

Turn that into an article about people who write about people playing video games, and you are golden, baby!

  6. Hi Peter,

I can’t find any email address for you online, so I had to comment here instead. (Feel free to delete it when you’ve read it, because it’s totally unrelated to the above post. :)

It seems you wrote some code for Angband in the past (specifically,
Linux support in Angband 2.5). We are in the process of putting Angband under the GPL, for the reasons outlined at .
Your code is currently used by Angband and its variants, and so we would
like consent to relicence your code.

If you would be happy for your changes to be relicenced, either under
the GPL or a less restrictive licence (e.g. the BSD licence, or Public
Domain), then please could you email me the following statement:

“I hereby release all my changes to the Angband code under the terms of
the GNU General Public License (version 2), as well as under the
traditional Angband license. It may be redistributed under the terms of
the GPL (version 2 or any later version), or under the terms of the
    traditional Angband license.”

You said on Usenet a while ago that you maintained the game briefly, too — I’d like to hear more about that if you have time, as I’m trying to construct a history of Angband.

    Thanks a lot,
    Andrew Sidwell

I didn’t realize you worked on anngband. I played it for a while back when. I can’t be bothered to play ascii art-based games anymore though because they all seem to have the movement keys hard-mapped and I use a kinesis dvorak keyboard.
