For Sale: One Cat. Cheap.

On April 11, 2008, in Games, by peterb

My cat just gnawed through the wire to my Wii sensor bar.

Good thing you can find replacement sensor bars everywhere! Oh wait. YOU CAN’T.

Edit: It looks like I can order a replacement sensor bar from Nintendo for $10, or pay $20 at a local Gamestop for a battery-powered one with no wire. Guess which one I’ll be doing.

According to youtube, which is never wrong, you can use a pair of candles to replace your sensor bar in the mean time; I think the only requirement is that you have two strong IR emitters in the same horizontal plane. If you have old remotes and a soldering iron, you could probably kludge something together there (or maybe just leave something heavy on a button???)

It would take two soldering irons, right? …Oh, you didn’t mean as the heat sources.

I bet you could solder the bar’s own wire back on. It’s not like there will be lots of data paths to get right.

My cat did the same thing to my poor sensor bar. I used a small luster terminal to connect the loose ends and it’s working fine again.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at your blog title. I have my own furballs with their endless annoyances, and the 13 year-old has just discovered he likes chewing on wires. He goes for the computer wires. I can’t help but think of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and the cat that chewed the Christmas tree lights and wonder if that’ll someday happen to me…or you…or anyone with a furball who doesn’t know chewing on wires is a way to use all 9 lives at once.
